Artificial intelligence has vaulted beyond the realms of imagination and already reached the stage where companies are building increasingly advanced AI agents. Apple is certainly not an exception to the rule. These AI agents, capable of app navigation, task management, and bookings, are the new innovation hitting the Apple ecosystem. But there's one striking point that has taken the tech world by surprise. These advanced AI assistants being built by Apple and other tech giants are being deployed with limits in place.
Early reports suggest that there are certain limitations built into these next-generation AI assistants. Despite their capabilities, they are refrained from exerting complete authority over apps and services on devices. The approach is different compared to OpenAI's ChatGPT. The primary reason for this is to ensure user safety and device security.
The purpose of these limitations is to prevent any potential misuse of advanced AI capabilities. Predominantly, the AI agents being built by Apple and other chipmakers like Qualcomm are to assist users—not to altar their devices' settings, perform unauthorized actions, or access any other privileged information.
A private beta version of an AI agentic system developed by Apple cropped up recently, showcasing that users can carry out complex tasks such as creating fully functional documents in applications like Numbers. Similarly, a telecom chipmaker like Qualcomm is said to be working on an AI agent capable of handling tasks on cellphones and tablets.
However, early versions of these assistants being tested don't have to be complex to navigate through an entire system. The idea is to make them powerful enough to be of assistance but not just free-standing. This shows that companies recognize the power of AI and also are aware of the potential dangers of uncontrolled usage of these systems.
